Inaugural Black Massage Therapist Conference
The 1st annual Black Massage Therapist Conference will take place on October 14, 2023 in Charlotte, NC. Our theme this year is “Let’s Celebrate”. We will celebrate the changes that we are making in our industry and among our community. The conference is for black massage therapists to feel a sense of belonging and community. Our mission is to form a community of black licensed massage therapists nationwide and worldwide. This community will network and provide a collaborative approach in how we can also educate the black communities on holistic health and wellness treatments and services.
Did you know there continues to be a disparity gap for Black Americans in the workplace, business and schools with the massage industry being one of the leading industries? According to the 2019 US Bureau of Labor Statistics in the Massage Therapy Industry only 8.8% of Black Americans. Research states that 83.6% of therapists are White Americans and 70% alone are women. As of January 2022, just 4% of Black businesses were still open after 3.5 years, compared to the national average of 55%. Fewer than half of Black businesses were considered healthy before the pandemic, versus 73% for white-owned businesses. Lack of capital is a major factor hampering growth for Black businesses. Closing the gap is key to unlocking growth… The racial wealth gap is still so wide: the typical white family has 8X times the wealth of the typical Black family.
We have various opportunities to support. You can do so by spreading the word about the conference as well with financial contributions towards the vision and cause. By supporting the Black Massage Therapist Conference, you’ll be able to help us assist members of the black massage community to have a place of belonging, celebration, networking and education. This will also allow us to:
✔ Aid eligible attendees that wish to seek business grants to scale and grow their business.
✔ Assist students seeking grants to fund them for the MBlex, the national test and study materials.
✔ Assist with the continuing educate needs to enhance the skills for the attendees
The world's biggest call to action is health and wellness. Most schools, companies and businesses are focusing on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts. By supporting the Black Massage Therapist Conference, you will be able to do such by supporting the community.
