Health Professions and Occupations Act receives Royal Assent, in force date not known

Bill 36, the Health Professions and Occupations Act, received Royal Assent on November 24, 2022 and is now law in British Columbia.

The BC Government has not yet released an implementation schedule and in force date for the Health Professions and Occupations Act. When the new legislation comes into force, it will replace the Health Professions Act as the governing legislation for health regulatory colleges in BC.

Likewise, there is as yet no detailed plan or timeline for the amalgamation of CMTBC and 10 other health regulatory colleges into two new multi-profession regulatory colleges. BC health regulatory colleges, including CMTBC, will continue to operate under the Health Professions Act until the new legislation comes into force.

CMTBC will communicate with registrants, applicants, and other stakeholders as more information is confirmed about changes to be made under the Health Professions and Occupations Act, and about amalgamation.
